The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dartmouth College Case was held on April 9, 1969, in the Court of Claims, Washington, D.C.; the celebration also commemorated the career of Daniel Webster, the advocate who defended the case before the Supreme Court. West was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass. in 1898. He attended Pennsylvania State College before serving in the United States army, 1918-1919. He received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College in 1922 and his A.M. degree from Dartmouth College in 1924, after working as an Instructor of English at the college. During 1924 and 1925 he pursued post graduate studies in London and Berlin, before returning to Dartmouth College as an Instructor of Comparative Literature. In 1929 he became an assistant pro...
